M.J. Lew is an American artist based in Chicago, Illinois. He specializes in watercolors and works from his Chicago based studio. Because of his medium, desire to get good texture, and his love for water, his studio is characterized with several bottles of water labeled with the names of different countries such as France, Lourdes, Kauai, The Mediterranean, and Turkey. M.J. was brought up near Lake Tahoe and his current Shore Drive art studio towers Lake Michigan. He loves water! Over the years, he has marshaled a huge following and attained a reputation for high quality and properly textured photographs and paintings created using actual sea water. He has a feeling that by using water from different locales across the globe in his paintings, they would inject some touch of nature into the artwork itself and the interior where the artwork is used.
M.J. Lew took a three-year study of Art History in Spain. Combined with his love to paint and travel, he found a new way of self expression on canvas. His subjects are diverse and are often guided by what he fancies at any given time. He has however often captured animals, plants, and beautiful places he visits. He makes his paintings on canvas and paper in order to achieve the most befitting texture for every artwork he creates. His works have been collected by different private and public collections and are exhibited in different retail stores, events, and galleries.
